Transportation Changes for Secord and Rosenthal ECSD Families

With the opening of St. Josephine Bakhita Catholic Elementary/Junior High School in September 2025, student transportation for families living in the Secord and Rosenthal neighbourhoods will change.

Starting in the 2025-2026 school year, Kindergarten to Grade 9 students in these areas will be designated to attend St. Josephine Bakhita. Busing to Joan Carr and Bishop David Motiuk schools will no longer be provided. Families who choose to remain at those schools will need to arrange their own transportation.

Applying for Transportation to St. Josephine Bakhita

Busing to the new school will be available for eligible students, but families must apply or reapply for transportation—busing will not be automatically transferred.

Under Alberta’s Education Act, students are eligible for busing if they live:

• At least 1.6 km from their designated school (Kindergarten to Grade 6)
• At least 2 km away (Grades 7–12), using the shortest driving distance

Additional transportation information:

• Kindergarten noon-hour busing may be available if there is enough demand.
• Transportation fees will apply and vary by grade level.
• Elementary students may qualify for busing even if older siblings in junior high do not meet eligibility requirements.

New to Edmonton Catholic Schools

If your family is new to ECSD and you plan to attend St. Josephine Bakhita, you’ll need to apply for transportation after completing school registration. Once your child is registered, you can submit a transportation application online.

Deadline to Apply

Submit your application by Friday, May 30, 2025 to ensure bus service is in place for the first day of school.
